Views on dog training are probably as diverse as ideas on parenting children. There are infinite shades of agreement and disagreement. This book is not meant to be a ‘stand alone’ training guide. Finding a reliable teacher/trainer is recommended. However, it is meant to make the reader aware of the responsibilities, dangers and rewards of having a dog, any dog, and for whatever purpose, to appreciate both the obvious and hidden factors of Dogdom and to use this knowledge responsibly both for the benefit of the dog and ourselves.
If human beings were truly at the top of the food chain, wouldn’t it be nice to think that they are also at the top of the leadership chain. Dogs need a leader as do many people. In the absence of that quality of leadership some dogs will assume the role themselves, a situation which repeats itself over in so many homes.
